Dutch Gable Style Home with Historic and Modern Design Elements
Old House
reflections
For the Old House project, a developer approached us with the task of designing a speculative home that combined traditional Dutch Gable architecture with modern elements. Drawing from historical sources, we explored the origins of the Dutch Gable style, particularly focusing on the masonry hearth as the central element of the house. Our design honored this tradition while integrating post-modern and contemporary elements to create a home that felt both classic and fresh. The result was a home that stayed true to its historical roots while offering modern conveniences and a layout designed for contemporary living. We paid special attention to the materials used, ensuring that the classic stonework gables were not only functional but aesthetically striking. The home is a perfect blend of past and present, making it a standout in its neighborhood.
